About Stop Motion Animation

  • Witness the sensation of slowing down time coupled with the joy of breathing life into the inanimate in this dynamic creative learning workshops. We'll build mini 3D models with wire, brackets, clay, moss, googly eyes, and other household objects and learn to shoot, compile, and share a short stop motion animation in a 90min session.

    Stop Motion Animation dates back to 1850s before the invention of film when artists experimented with stereoscopic alternating images. By 1910 (during the silent film era), short films of many “stop tricks” were made with differerent materials such as clay and wood.

    Stop motion techniques became increasingly complex with advancement of the film industry and the last 30 years we’ve seen extremely time consuming full feature films made by stop motion animation.

  • Stop Motion is an innately extremely rewarding experience, which is a core ingredient to creative flow.

    While many stop motion workshops is over the course of many weeks, we have distilled this art into a low-barrier to entry 90min format where anyone can walk away with a fun, silly, mini movie.

    Outcomes of this creative workshop include quick thinking, strong choices, creative confidence, flow, playfulness, and authentic connection.

About This Event

  • The Stop Motion Animation Kit is optional! For last minute events or teams on a tighter budget, participants are able to bring a few items from around their desk or around the house to animate. In fact, everyone bringing their own items will reflect more of their personality into the team experience and make everyone’s mini-movies more unique.

    The Stop Motion Animation Kit includes clay, soft armature wire for easy 3D structures, moss, and googly eyes. These basic items can be combined with household items.

    Shipping - please allow 10 days for US shipping and 2 weeks for international shipping. We can ship anywhere in the world!

  • We will share links to download the LifeLapse stop motion app (free) in the calendar invite prior to the event. If everyone can download the app in advance, it will save a few minutes. International folks can fully participate as long as they can download the iOS or Android app.

    The app is very simple and we will give a brief tutorial before we dive in and everyone begins to experiment with making their own animation. It is essentially taking a series of photos where each photo differs slightly from the one before and the app strings the photos together into mini movies.

    Everyone will share their animations and we will collect all the animations and upload them into a Google drive.

    Virtual events: We will ship a Stop Motion Animation Kit to each participant in advance if the organizer chooses this option (w can ship anywhere in the world) OR everyone can gather a few items from around their desk/house.

    NYC events: we will bring supplies for each person to your venue of choice - office, restaurant/bar private room, 3rd party space.

  • Stefan Zeniuk, Stop Motion Animation Cultivator

    Stefan Zeniuk is a NYC-born saxophonist, composer, animator and DJ. His original stop-motion animations have been featured on NPR and Billboard. He has toured internationally with his band, Gato Loco, is the inventor of the Flame-O-Phone, a fire-breathing baritone sax, and has performed and recorded with bands ranging from Vampire Weekend to The Violent Femmes.
